Things I’m Loving This Friday

Hi friends! I hope you’ve had a good week and are looking forward to something fun this weekend. I’ve been dragging all week trying to recover from a recent work trip so my thoughts are a bit all over the place. Which isn’t all that different from normal but makes perfect material for a random, things I’m loving, things I’m thinking kind of post. Let me know what you’re obsessed with these days in the comments!

  • These Janji shorts. They’re waiting for me patiently until Boston decides to get warm enough again in the morning.

  • Absolutely nothing about my taxes. Let’s just say I wasn’t exactly organized over the last year and owed a lot of money with all my contractor jobs. So I basically gave my savings to the IRS on Wednesday but at least I can move on with a little more knowledge of how to actually make freelance jobs financially worthwhile.
  • This article about the First Lady and her team’s impact on the food system over the last 8 years. I heard Sam Kass speak at Expo West and was completely fascinated by his stories so I’ve been binge reading anything I can about it.
  • That my dad is visiting this weekend! He hasn’t been to Boston since last summer so I’m pumped to show him my new (to him) apartment and catch up with friends over dinner tomorrow.

  • This article explaining the importance of easy pace days. A few runners have been asking me how to get faster recently (read post here) and suggesting they do all their trainings runs at their goal pace. This is not the way to do it, friends. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

  • Smoothies are back in action. Now that I’m not completely frozen after my runs, it’s time to break out the smoothies again. I don’t really measure but typically include some combination of these ingredients:
    1. Almond milk (tip: if you like smoothies thick, put very little milk in it)
    2. Greek yogurt or cottage cheese or a plant-based protein powder
    3. Flax seeds and/or chia seeds
    4. Cinnamon (heavy hand here)
    5. Almond butter
    6. Half a frozen banana
    7. Frozen berries or pineapple
    8. Fresh spinach or frozen kale
    9. Finish with a splash more almond milk before blending
  • Hills. I know, it’s weird, but I’m all of the sudden actually enjoying hills these days. Don’t ask me while it’s happening but I think I like having a hard workout in my rotation that’s not entirely dependent on pace.

  • Which will be helpful for this in about two months…

Figure it’s probably about time I shared that :) Have a great weekend!
